Christmas-Themed Chick Lit and Women’s Fiction – Updated 2016

A few years ago, I stumbled down the rabbit hole of a Goodreads list devoted to Christmas-themed Chick Lit Novels. I am a sucker for a good romance, and anything British, so I ordered a good four or five novels from The Book Depository to be sent over here to my American doorstep (Many of those novels were not published in paperback here in the US.) I spent many a magical evening soaking up these whimsical, spirited stories. I especially loved the ones set in small towns or villages. I was going through a pretty rough depression at the time, too, so these comforting reads not only put me in the season but also lifted my mood. They were even better than Love Actually because I could savor them slowly, and there was an almost endless supply. Even after Christmas was over, I kept an eagle eye watching Book Depository for sales on Christmas-themed chick lit and also possible new Christmas chick lit published in 2016. Now here we are, with December right around the corner, and I’ve got the best of the best holiday chick lit novels for you with buying options in the US and international. I write to...

Books to Read If You Loved The Great British Baking Show

books to read if you love the great british baking show

Last year, The Great British Baking Show lifted me from a deep depression. Oh, those soothing accents. Oh, that spunky, magical music. Oh, those desserts! I felt utterly transported to England, and I binge-watched the show with my mom. One reason why I loved the show so much was that it reminded me of my own guilty pleasure: British chick lit or women’s fiction about cooking, baking, and overall sweet delights. And if you’re just coming to the The Great British Baking Show tonight for its season premiere on PBS, or you’re a longtime fan of this show, which is also known as The Great British Bake Off in its native UK, you’re likely want to indulge and binge read the following books that are like The Great British Baking Show. Or, for my friends in the UK, books like The Great British Bake Off. Sink your teeth into these book recommendations for The Great British Baking Show. Novels Like The Great British Baking Show I’m a fiction girl at heart, and also a consumer of British women’s literature about baking, cooking, and food in general. If you have yet to discover the pleasures of this subgenre, prepare yourself. Here’s the basic formula (without being formulaic): take 1/4 foodie...

Romance Novel Quotes I’d Like Benedict Cumberbatch to Read to Me

Ermagod. Benedict Cumberbatch…whatever you think about his appearance, nobody can deny that he has one of the sexiest voices in the world. Seriously, he could send me into a hot sweat if only by reading something as dry as the phone book (or my library science textbooks…). Regrettably, Benedict Cumberbatch has not recorded many audiobooks I can purchase with my Audible credit, at least not so far. However, Cumberbatch was recently involved in a project called My Dear Bessie, a radio program on BBC Radio 4 in which he read actual love letters from a soldier in World War II to his lady love on the homefront. Starring opposite Cumberbatch in the role of Bessie was Louise Brealey, better known to some as Molly Hooper from Sherlock. Yes, an actual Sherlolly romance! You can listen to an excerpt here or the entire thing here (but only for a few more weeks). This got me thinking, what if I could get Benedict Cumberbatch to read me my favorite romantic quotes from literature past and present? There’s certainly plenty of options. So ease into your chair and imagine that thick, rich, decadent voice vocalizing these words of love in the perfect pairing of book boyfriend...

“Three Amazing Things About You” by Jill Mansell | Book Review

Jill Mansell “Three Amazing Things About You” Review: Three Stars OK, I’m struggling with how I feel about this book. I feel mixed. And let me tell you why. At times, this was a really positive reading experience. I was so totally absorbed in this story that I read it in less than 24 hours. Jill Mansell knows how to write light mystery and suspense in her story. Throughout the story there are a few main questions that drive the narrative, some of which impacted my rating and made me downgrade it from a potential 5-star to a 3-star. Here they are:
